Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register?
We are doing registration through team snap. Go to https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/302404 to register today!
When does the season actually start?
The season officially starts in August. We will have our team camp (Date TBD) @ Westview High School.
When and where are practices held?
Practices will begin the week following cheer camp and will be held 2 days a week throughout the season. Practices will typically continue through October. If your football team goes to playoffs, the season may be a little longer. Practices are held between 5:00-8:00 and are typically 1 1/2 hours. Team coaches will determine specific practice times.
When are games?
Every Saturday starting after Labor Day. Times will vary according to the schedule of the football team.
What is expected of each cheerleader?
Each participant is expected to be at cheer camp where new material such as dances, cheers, chants and other routines will be taught. Each cheerleader is responsible for upholding the WYC code of conduct and is required to be responsible with all equipment and uniforms that are issued to her/him.
Who will be my coach?
The head coach for each squad will be assigned by the Westview High School Cheer coach and will also be the coach for the WYC competition team. In addition to a head coach for each squad, we will need an assistant or parent coach. This is typically a WYC parent volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering as an assistant coach, please let us know! After registration concludes we will assign participants and coaches. Coaches are provided team contact information and they will reach out to your family. You should expect communication from your coach by the end of July.
When will I receive my uniform?
Fitting Night will be in June (date and location to be announced) and uniform pieces are provided right around camp time, in early August. This is a MANDATORY date to attend.
Will there be travel involved?
All practices will be at the assigned practice location. Games do require some local travel. The football league tries to keep travel times to a minimum, but there will be away games.
What are the signs of a concussion?
Like all team sports & activities, cheerleaders are active and there is a potential for injury. Our coaching staff takes every precaution regarding the safety and welfare of your athlete, however, if you have concerns about a concussion or other medical issue, please email WYC. Click here to link to the CDC Information Sheet on concussions.
What are the costs associated with joining?
We attempt to keep costs as low as possible. That being said, the approximate cost will be $400-500 for 3rd to 8th grade and $250-300 for Kindergarten-2nd grade. These costs include payment for practice space, uniform rental, and related game day gear (game day shirt, leggings, jacket, hoodie, shoes, bag, poms, etc.)
When are payments due?
Registration fee is due prior to uniform fitting night. The remaining balance will be owed at fitting night (beginning of June) after you have a chance to offset participation costs through fundraising! If you are needing to make payment arrangements, please email us at [email protected]
Will there be any type of fundraising opportunities to help offset costs?
ABSOLUTELY! There will be a variety of fundraising options available to cheerleaders including some that will offset personal costs of gear (gift cards, holiday decor sales, etc.) and some that are fundraisers to benefit the league as a whole (car washes and dine out nights).
Can my child be on the same team as a friend?
Typically, we have 3 squads. We have our pixie group which are kindergarten-2nd graders, ICE which are typically 3rd-5th graders and then FIRE who are 6th-8th graders. However, depending on how many are registered, 5th graders could potentially be moved to the fire team to help with numbers.
Can we join the competition team only?
No. It is required to participate in our sideline teams if you are wanting to join the competition team in the winter. We find it helps with team bonding and great practice before the competition season begins, so yes it is required to be on the sideline team.
