Competitive Cheer Information
- Many of our athletes extend their cheer season by joining the Youth Competitive Squad. Competitive cheer teams practice several days a week and perform at cheerleading competitions.
- This year we are having two competitive teams, FIRE and ICE.
- The participants learn complex choreography and stunts which are fun, challenging, and help prepare youth cheerleaders for High School Cheer.
- Some travel is required although typically competitions have been within 50 miles.
- There are additional fees required to be part of the competitive squad, but fundraising is available.
- Competitive cheer practices begin in September for FIRE team and November for ICE. Competitions normally begin in December and end in mid-Febrary. Practices are at Westview High School.
- Compete at same competitions as the Junior Varsity and Varsity Westview High School Squad.
- Your child must participate in the Westview Youth sideline cheer program (Recreational Cheerleading) to be eligible for the Competitive Team.
- FIRE Squad will be required to take a MANDATORY tumbling class once a week during the competitive cheer season. This is set up through the WYC Board and will be an additional expense.
- The competitive cheer season helps the participants to gain more advanced skills in tumbling, stunting, showmanship, and form. They become more confident in themselves and as a team. The cheerleaders have amazing coaches guiding them and they have a great time too!!
